Event Beneficiary:    Center for Child Protection

Founded in 1989, the Center for Child Protection, an accredited child advocacy center, is the first stop for children entering the criminal justice system because of suspected sexual abuse, serious physical abuse or because they have witnessed a violent crime.  The Center’s mission is to reduce the trauma for children during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.  In 2004, the Center served more than 1,200 children.

The Center for Child Protection provides the facility and support that bring Child Protection Team (CPT) professionals to the child one safe place.  This collaborative model promotes better communication between CPT professionals.  Better communication allows for more accurate immediate assessment of child safety and better information to parents and caregivers about the criminal justice process.  This means that children are less traumatized by the system designed to help them so that they can begin healing.
