River City Ten Miler roars back to life!!

More participant feedback:

"THANK YOU for organizing such a fun, great race! I had a blast and even though I'm a slow runner, did a personal best! This race was very well organized...The water stops were so much fun, and the APD was stellar. Thank you for your hard work in getting this race together, and I look forward to doing it again next year!" - Christie

"Just wanted to reiterate how I thought this was a real first-class race. From the port-a-lets (quantity and quality) to the course and water stops, all the way to the keg of beer and sausage wraps - you really outdid yourself. I had been looking forward to this event for some time, and you certainly did not disappoint. Heard a lot of glowing comments - one of my favorites was: "I actually smelled better when I came out of the port-a-let than when I went in!" Way to go, Man!" - John

"I am writing to let you know how enjoyable the race was yesterday.  I ran with a few friends, including one who had come into town from Virginia, and we all had a great time!" - Lisa

12-28-05 - River City 10 Miler Blast From The Past
Kickoff Party

by Wish

To get things rolling for the return to the spring racing calendar of the River City 10-Miler, race director Raul Najera of RunFAR is inviting the Austin running community to a kickoff party--the Blast from the Past--on January 11th from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the downtown RunTex at 422 W. Riverside. There will be plenty of food, drinks and music, courtesy of DJ Rich.

Najera is revamping the River City 10-Miler which was an Austin classic, famed for its lightning-fast course and elite competition. But sadly, the race died in the mid-90s, leaving a void in the Austin running community. Najera--former president of the Austin Runners Club and now the owner of RunFAR Racing Services-has always wanted to revive this race. And now he finally is.

The River City 10-Miler is scheduled for March 19th at 7:30 a.m.

Keeping with the River City tradition, Najera has lined up a spectacular, mostly downhill course which will start at Northcross Mall, go down Shoal Creek and Lamar to Cesar Chavez before winding up for the finish on the S. 1st Street Bridge. All post-race activities will be at RunTex.

"Our goal is to re-establish River City as one of the premier competitive events in town," says Najera. "We want to make this a race for the elite runners as well as the weekenders, 5-K runners and marathoners who may have finished Freescale a month before."

The Blast from the Past party on January 11th at RunTex will feature memorabilia from all the previous River City races as well as speakers such as John Ferguson, who was the race director, and John Conley, race director for the Freescale Austin Marathon.

There will also be sponsor booths at the party and Najera will conduct a drawing for which water-stop groups get which of the six water stops during the race.

Najera urges everyone who has one of the River City T-shirts to wear them to the party. He'll also be giving away special River City shirts at the party as well as offering a $10 discount on the entry fee for the first 100 runners who sign up at the party.
